Brazilian-Themed Dinner Party

Brazilian Headdress
A festive napkin fold for your Brazilian-themed party.
An original fold.
For my Brazilian dinner party, I dressed the table in large jungle leaves (ordered from Amazon), fresh limes, and a Money Tree plant that gave the impression of a palm tree. The place settings included a Brazilian Carnival headdress napkin fold adorned with feathers.
I greeted guests with an offering of Caipirinhas, an alcoholic Brazilian drink of choice. The dinner menu: Pão de queijo (cheese puffs but with a Milk Street version using gruyere and chives ); Couve (Brazilian collard greens ); Costelinha de porco (Brazilian spare ribs); and Arroz com Feijäo (Brazilian beans and rice). For dessert, Torta de limão, a lime torte with a Chantilly cream topping mixed with a touch of limoncello.
I carried the Brazilian carnival theme to the bathroom with an original toilet paper fold.

Here’s my recipe for Slow Cooker Brazilian Style Spare Ribs. These are very flavorful and fall off the bone.
Time: overnight, plus 8 hours in slow cooker and oven
Meat:
4 lbs. pork spareribs
Marinade Ingredients:
2 ½ - 3 tsp salt
4 cloves minced garlic
1 white onion chopped
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 - ½ tsp Dijon mustard
1 - ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp paprika
1 tsp dried oregano
¼ tsp ground cumin
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
Baste Ingredients:
½ cup of honey
2 Tbsp canola oil
Instructions:
Wash and dry the spareribs. They will be lining the sides of the slow cooker, so you may need to cut the ribs in places to fit. It’s easier to cut them now before you marinate them.
Prepare the marinade by combining all the ingredients together. Rub the marinade on the ribs and refrigerate the ribs overnight.
The next day, curl the ribs around the sides of the slow cooker and pour the marinade over the ribs.
Cook on low 7 hours.
Reserve the cooking liquid. Put in a saucepan and cook on medium high heat to reduce it to a thicker sauce, about 10-15 minutes.
Transfer the ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet. Baste with oil, then honey. Put them under broiler for 4-7 minutes, watching so they don’t burn but the tops turn crisp.
Brush the ribs with the reduced marinade and serve.
